International Poster Biennale Lublin

International Poster Biennale Lublin
Poland is a country with a rich history of poster design and artists. Today we examine an addition to this culture of design – The International Poster Biennale Lublin. This current exhibition taking place in Lublin, is comprised of many great posters created from talented designers from all over the world. The Faculty of Fine Arts Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin and the Open Art Workshop in Lublin Association, organized a call for entries to participate in this great event.

Posters submitted involved 4 categories. The first of these, category A, is intended for those who are interested in or involved in poster art. Category B is dedicated for those who are currently studying or graduating in 2018.

In categories A and B, posters can raise any subject.

Category C is called “Clean air”. Posters show the benefits of a clean environment.

Category D is a competition for a poster commemorating the 450th anniversary of the Union of Lublin.

All submitted posters were evaluated by an international jury.

Exhibition: International Reggae Poster Contest

The International Reggae Poster Contest is currently exhibiting some fantastic posters at the National Gallery in Jamaica. The show features winning reggae-inspired posters from the sixth International Reggae Poster Contest which feautures 101 posters from 1,060 entries.

The aim of the poster competition is to build awareness about reggae music, and to establish a world-class “Reggae Hall of Fame Museum and Performance Centre” in Kingston, Jamaica. It also strives to help raise global awareness for Alpha Boys’ School, an institution for underprivileged youths in Kingston, Jamaica.

Exhibition: Underground Images in Uruguay

Underground Images
A very unique poster exhibition that has been touring the world has recently wrapped up a great show in Montevideo, Uruguay. Underground Images brings together the work of some of the world’s best designers, created at SVA for display in the New York City subway system.

SVA has been using alternative marketing strategies since the mid-1950’s to attract new students and took advantage of the New York subway system to showcase powerful and thought-provoking posters. Over the years designers such as Ivan Chermayeff, Milton Glaser and George Tscherny have featured their posters as part of this campaign. Recently, a collection of these amazing posters arrived in Uruguay and was shown at Universidad ORT—Uruguay’s largest private university. This travelling exhibition includes many great posters that have been carefully selected and curated for locations around the world. The interesting display in Uruguay had posters hung from the ceiling of the facility using wire at different heights.

The 34 artists in “Underground Images” include Gail Anderson, Marshall Arisman, Chris Buzelli, Gene Case, Ivan Chermayeff, Paul Davis, Pablo Delcan, Sal De Vito, Stephen Doyle, Louise Fili, Audrey Flack, Nathan Fox, Bob Gill, Robert Giusti, Milton Glaser, Phil Hays, Steven Heller, Mirko Ilić, Viktor Koen, Stephen Kroninger, Marvin Mattelson, Clay Patrick McBride, James McMullan, Jerry Moriarty, Tony Palladino, Edel Rodriguez, Julia Rothman, Stefan Sagmeister, David Sandlin, Paula Scher, Yuko Shimizu, Eve Sonneman, George Tscherny, James Victore and Robert Weaver.

Ecuador Poster Bienal in Poland

Last week was the official opening of the 2nd Ecuador Poster Bienal® in Lublin, Poland at the Spotkania Kultur which is one of the biggest cultural centres in Europe.

The exhibition will stay open until the 5th May and then the posters will travel to Warsaw during the month of June.

26th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw

During the summer was the official opening of the historic 26th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw, Poland.
Over 300 posters were exhibited by many prominent artists and designers from around the world at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts.

Congratulations to Professor Lech Majewski – President of the International Poster Biennale and the rest of his team for creating such an important event for the poster world.

Exhibition: Juan Manuel Madriz

With the presence of authorities, representatives of the migrant community and visitors in general the poster exhibition Retrocartel by Juan Manuel Madriz was officially inaugurated in the Extension Center (Centex), of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage in Chile.

The Venezuelan artist, Juan Manuel Madriz Pontiles, born in Coro, Venezuela presented his exhibition that showcased many of his social posters that have won many awards all over the world.

Posters have long been an integral part of public transportation, providing commuters with useful information, ads, and beautiful works of art. Because of the importance, and long history that posters have played in our daily traveling routines, a poster exhibition of these great artworks has been organized for July 5th, 2018. In celebration in 150 years of Connaught Village and The Hyde Park Estate, and in partnership with Tomkinson Churcher, this selling exhibition of vintage London transport and recreation posters features rare and beautiful works dating back decades. The exhibition “Between the Lines”, features highlights such as rare London Tramways poster of Ken Wood [Kenwood] & Hampstead Heath, created by Ralph & Brown Studios in 1928, and also includes the the work of renowned graphic artist Edward McKnight Kauffer.

“To Protect & Serve? Five Decades of Posters Protesting Police Violence.”
In the state of California a poster exhibition is currently taking place that showcases artwork focused on the protest of police violence. The event features 75 powerful posters created over decades that have been submitted from an international group of designers. The show is being held in a former police station in Venice, the Durón Gallery.

The posters are organized into the following categories: “Policing as Political Repression,” “Gender Profiling & Sexual Violence,” “Civil Rights, Government Wrongs,” “Immigration,” “Racial Profiling & the School to Prison Pipeline,” “Militarization of Law Enforcement,” “International,” “Murdered by the State” and “Organizing Resistance.”
