Celebrating Tom Eckersley
This January, the London College of Communication (LCC) set up an exhibition featuring Tom Eckersley work from 1940s to the 1980s. The exhibit corresponds with the centenary of his birth. Tom Eckersley was a pioneer in creating a whole new identity for graphic design, differentiating it from commercial art. He was the founder of the first undergraduate graphic design course at the London College of Printing (today’s LCC) in 1954,
The site, It’s nice that, published a piece about the exhibition, including a commentary by Lawrence Zeegen, dean at the LCC. According to Zeegen, Eckersley’s work “ is crucial in our understanding and appreciation of communication design’s past, present and future.”
