Controversial Orgasm Posters
The enticing posters for Lars von Trier’s newest film Nymphomaniac portray casts members in the throes of ecstasy, experiencing an orgasm. The minds behind the campaign, husband-and-wife team Philip Lipskiand Maria Biilmann, also known as the Einstein Couple explained that their approach was governed by von Trier’s decision to keep quiet, after having been banned from Cannes in 2011, while he was promoting his previous film Melancholia.
Philip Lipski explained: “[Lars] has always done his own campaigns before, he always knew exactly what he was doing … But this time he told us he’s not going to say a word. He said he wanted a campaign that can speak for the movie so he can keep his mouth shut, so he can keep his promise not to speak to the press.” Von Trier took a “vow of silence” after the 2011 controversy, refusing to speak to the media again. Therefore, the objective of the campaign was to make it be accessible to everyone, “except nuns, monks and children”.
