Poster Monday: Nobel Prize
For the first Poster Monday spot of the day we have a poster from Lonnie Ruiz Gomez from Granada, Nicaragua. Lonnie studied graphic design at the Polytechnic University of Nicaragua. Since 2001 he works at ARCO Productions and at the “Universidad Americana” in Managua as a professor of Graphic Design and Illustration.
Lonnie’s works has been published in the Latin American Graphic Design book from Taschen editorial and selected for the Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño from Madrid.
The poster from above entitled “Nobel Prize” was designed in response to the events that took place in August 2013 when U.S. President Barack Obama decided to take military actions against Syria. A very ironic situation, since in 2009 President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize…
According to Lonnie, in this poster, finding the perfect balance to integrate the dove and the bomb was the hardest thing. He adds that this poster is meant to be understood as a criticism to the image that the United States government has constructed, depicting its country as defender and savior of the world.
