Erick Ginard from Cuba is in our first Poster Monday spot of the day for his poster “The Unknown Artist”. Erick studied Visual Communication Design in Havana where he was born. Currently he works as a freelance designer in Mexico City. In Cuba, he , as everyone else, designed posters since student.
Some of his work has been selected for; Poster Prize at 62nd San Sebastian International Film Festival / Spain, Silver Award and Judges Special Award at Taipei International Design Award (Visual Communication Design) / Taiwan, Grand Prix at the International Virtual Biennale / Prague, Winner Poster at “Typoday” International Poster Design Competition / India.
The poster “The Unknown Artist” was designed for the “New Directors” brief of the 62nd San Sebastian International Film Festival (2014). “It was inspired by the self-portrait of a mysterious artist… perhaps a very talented one, but still totally unknown. A face of primitive characteristics and extreme simplicity appears like the unique center of the composition, where the absence of color and graphic adornments tries to present an image in it purest form. Typography occupies a secondary place combining widely recognized fonts with handwriting types to symbolize the introduction of a new and fresh speech at an official stage.” explains Erick.
