Poster Monday: Water is a human right
The first Poster Monday spot goes to Cristina del Moral, who is also known as Quene (that’s how she signs her work) for the poster “Water is a human right”. Cristina was born in Madrid, Spain and moved to Dublin in 1998. During this 17 years living in Ireland she studied Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design and currently she is taking the last year of a BA in Visual Communications.
The poster “Water is a human right” was part of an exhibition called #MOANments of Happiness in Dublin. While researching, Cristina came across this situation in Detroit where water supplies were cut off affecting the well-being of many families when public water supplies undergo privatization.
The idea for the poster was to create awareness of the importance of access to clean water as a basic human right, and for next generations to have that same basic right as previous ones.
“I wanted to raise awareness about this issue but in a positive way. Many Irish people fear something similar could happen with the privatization of their water supply so this was a chance to raise awareness of our basic human right to unhindered access to a fresh clean water supply. I’m planning to expand the message, by repeating the poster in various languages and also creating a video” says Cristina but that’s something for keeping as a surprise.
