Chinese typographic poster exhibition in Colombia

On May 5th the Alliance Francaise Bucaramanga, in Colombia opened the new exhibition Playing a Character, featuring typographic posters from Chinese designer Li Xu.  The opening of this solo exhibition by Xiu was attended by different personalities of the city, gathering approximately 120 people.

Amongst them were acting director of the French alliance, Ciro Caballero, the managing director of the University UNC Comfenalco Santander Jasmine Moreno, educational director Martha Lucía López, the academic program coordinator in visual communication design Oscar Caballero, the program director of marketing and advertising UDES Raul Bueno, the teachers artist Gilma Carreño, spanish graphic designer Rafael Grau, industrial designer and artist Boris Zarate and interior designer Adriana Arenas, as well as advertising graphic design students from UDES and Visual Communication Design students from UNC, 2 universities of Santander, in Colombia.

Poster Monday:  Typography Exhibition

The Poster Monday spot of the day belongs to Rinatto Rinat from Kazakhstan for his poster entitled “Typography Exhibition”. Rinat studied in the Eastern Mediterranean University in the department of visual arts and visual communication design.

The poster Typography Exhibition was designed for the Graphist 19 workshop, which was  his first responsible experience in the creation of a poster for a workshop exhibition. “I made triptych using as a main idea a one of fundamental theory about poster and 3d shapes; decide experiment with 3d shapes and do kind of glitch on text part, stretching them showing how flexible and multifaceted can be typography, rounding any slimy barriers that limit your freedom of speech” says Rinat.

For sure all the designers love something weird once in a while! That’s why sometimes we create different projects in different ways. There is not only way to say something and for sure Ruben Montero said it pretty well. The Spanish designer did this amazing experiment working with typography and his scanner to reproduce what looks like distorted photocopies.  Playing with quotes and texts written by him; destroyed it and manipulated it to see what the designs would look like. We really enjoy seeing this kind of project, we hope you enjoy it also.

The second Poster Monday spot of the day goes to John Rivas from Aibonito, Puerto Rico for his poster entitled Course Typography AG303. John is an award winning and well-known Graphic Designer & Publicist. He has over 35 years of professional experience on the Graphic Arts & Advertising fields, from the analog traditional artwork to the new digital era in Graphic Design, with a BA in Graphic Arts – Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico a Master’s Degree in Digital Graphic Design from Atlantic University.

The poster “Course Typography AG303” was created using only typography to promote the contest of the course Typography AG303. Typography was used in all the information and images, except in the logos, All the typography used for the poster design was manipulated to achieve the effects and silhouettes as needed for the design

Typographic posters don’t have to be boring

We love to discover posters projects from all over the world. Our friend Magdalena Koscianka shared with us a post from designer Christopher Iwanski, from Lodz where he explains the process behind his typographic posters and how he has convinced the institutions with which he cooperates, to trust him enough to give him a free hand and not interfere in the process of creation. The main element he highlights from his work is that he has convinced his clients that typographic posters can be interesting; they can rivet the eye and even cause the desire to pull out one’s phone from the to take a picture.

The puzzle-like, colourful prints showcase the most commonly lost items at home.
