Photoshop FAIL in movie poster
A photoshop fail in the poster of the upcoming movie Arrival has created a big controversy for all the wrong reasons. The original copy comprising an alien craft hovering over the Hong Kong skyline appeared innocuous right until viewers caught sight of the iconic Shanghai landmark, the Pearl Tower, located at the bottom right of the image.
Hong Kong is independent of Mainland China. Shanghai, on the other hand, is a city in China. Given that the political relationship between the two has been tense in recent years, this seemingly minor mistake created major trouble when frustrated Hong Kong citizens took to the movie’s Facebook page and responded to the original visual with comments comprising hashtag ‘#HongKongIsNotChina’.
The initial movie poster has since been removed across all of the film’s social media channels. It’s been replaced by the “corrected” version featured below that contains the alien craft hovering over an unaltered cityscape of Shanghai. The producers issued an apology citing the error as a fault made by a “3rd party vendor”.
