Kokino is a megalithic observatory, located in Macedonia. It is one of the oldest megalithic observatories in the world, considered a holy mountain where various rituals about harvest, fertility and the Great Goddess – Mother were held. One of the many rituals included placing ceramic dishes filled with groceries among the cracks of the rocks in order to call for successful animal husbandry and health. Kokino is considered a cultural heritage protected by UNESCO. “With my poster I tried to represent the Great Goddess – Mother holding up a dish, and forming the top of Kokino rocks. I believe everyone from my country that saw the poster knew about the site Kokino, but not many understood what the poster represented because not many are familiar with its history. So whenever a person comes to me and says “Yes, sure I’ve heard about Kokino, but what is that female figure doing?” or it simply makes you google for “Kokino”- that is when the poster has accomplished its cause – to make the viewer curious about the history and purpose of the Kokino observatory” says Marijana.
