Sevgi Ari was born in 1981 in Turkey. She started her graphic design education in 1999 in her hometown, Mersin. Worked as a lecturer and finished her master thesis after graduation and after that she moved to Eskisehir to get a Phd degree. Currently she is living in Eskisehir, works on her thesis about interdisciplinary connections in graphic design and as a research assistant.
The poster featured for this first Poster Monday spot is entitled “Romeo & Juliet”. Sevgi designed it for the 450th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s Birthday. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic and romantic story of two lovers who struggle for the impossibilities and misfortunes in their lifetimes. At the end they die for their love, because of the chaotic misunderstandings…
“I approached this love story with a semi-abstract composition that resembles a burning heart. Instead of black and white I used red to compound a dramatic sense. I created all images as vector graphics and distorted them in a digital way.” says Sevgi.
Sevgi usually use semi-abstract images in her posters and mostly of the time she produce in series, even if it’s a poster or illustration commissioned project. In her words: “I like to tell my stories in a poetic way.” If you would like to take a look at the whole poster series and other posters and project from Sevgi visit her issuu page.
