Poster Monday: Song Cycle – Convulsions of Time
The first Poster Monday spot of the day belongs to Celine Wouters from Amsterdam for his poster entitled Song Cycle – Convulsions of Time. Celine works as a freelance graphic designer, mainly in the form of printed matter on both self-initiated and commissioned projects. Her projects are characterised by a content driven approach.
“I haven’t made that many posters in my career, although it’s one of my favourite mediums. It’s a very direct medium. You have to come to the point, using a simple but strong concept, this challenge is something that intrigues me”. She comments to the team.
The poster is made for the piece by the same name from composer Natalia Domínguez Rangel. The music piece plays with the idea of slow transformations, mutability and long compressions. In one form or another, the constant change, the inconstancy of change. Domínguez Rangel found inspiration for her music in* The Metamorphoses* by the Roman poet Ovid.
Celine wanted to reflect in the concept for the poster, by distorting a classical image, the idea of “Metamorphoses”. Aside from that it can be seen as a literal translation of the (sub-) title “Convulsion in time”.
