The poster is almost dead
The Pirulí, Pirulón, Pirulero project started three years ago with a poster that read: “In this city the poster is almost dead.” Behind this statement was designer David Torrents, who noticed that most posters that were being created in his city were exhibited in galleries and shows or posted online to gather “likes” rather than being pasted on the walls and lamp posts in the streets. Torents explains his work:
“Goodbye Poster? The poster has changed status, there is a kind of poster which is no longer visible on the streets of Barcelona. It doesn’t make sense in large spanish cities anymore because there aren’t places from where to hang them. The poster as something popular has disappeared.”
What do you think about this initiative? Do you agree that the poster is dead?
