“To Protect & Serve? Five Decades of Posters Protesting Police Violence.”
In the state of California a poster exhibition is currently taking place that showcases artwork focused on the protest of police violence. The event features 75 powerful posters created over decades that have been submitted from an international group of designers. The show is being held in a former police station in Venice, the Durón Gallery.
The posters are organized into the following categories: “Policing as Political Repression,” “Gender Profiling & Sexual Violence,” “Civil Rights, Government Wrongs,” “Immigration,” “Racial Profiling & the School to Prison Pipeline,” “Militarization of Law Enforcement,” “International,” “Murdered by the State” and “Organizing Resistance.”
