Holger Matthies has designed more than 1000 posters over the course of four decades, making him one of the world’s most prolific poster artists. He is best known for his designs for theatre and opera productions, exhibitions, concerts, and political satire shows.

The exhibition currently on display in the foyer of the Kunstbibliothek, at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, presents the human head as the central recurring motif, characteristic of Matthie’s work, where he often places the head in unusual settings or forms surprising connections to other objects.
