Movie Posters from Ghana
A few days ago The Wall Street Journal published a piece about the blooming industry of Movie Posters in Ghana. Collectors are paying thousands of dollars for movie posters that artists from this country painted in the 1980s and 1990s to attract customers to the screenings. The artists hand painted the posters and, either because the painters often hadn’t seen the films or because their patrons wanted to promise more thrill than the films sometimes delivered, they embellished the action, often adding scenes that were not featured in the actual movie.
This growing interest from collectors has inspired current artists to start painting more posters, sometimes scuffing and fading them to make them look old or vintage. To see more posters watch the complete slideshow here.
