Poster Monday: Spontanéous
The first Poster Monday spot of the day goes to Jean-Christophe Thérien from Canada for his poster entitled “Spontanéous”. Jean-Christophe was born in Montreal, Canada. Next September (2015) will be starting his senior year completing a bachelor’s degree in graphic design at EMI (École Multidisciplinaire de l’Image) in Gatineau, Canada.
The poster “Spontanéous” is a version of a series of three posters Jean-Christophe made for the Spontanéous Improvisation Festival in Lyon, France. The mandate was to create an effective/low cost/versatile advertising campaign for the annual event that covers a broad variety of creative artists at the Gerson Space.
For this poster hand drawn lettering with gouache was used to verbalize the spontaneous gestures made by artists bodies during their plays. Laying down gouache on an underlying grid system is a way of making sure that each poster is unique while maintaining a sense of unity.
“I consider that poster design is the ultimate gateway drug of design. I think that in order to engage your audience, you need to make them feel involved and hence the posters, being art pieces in the case of the Spontaneous Festival, are used to target curious people interested by artistic works.” says Jean-Christophe.
