Exhibition: Art of Solidarity

Cuban Posters for African Liberation 1967 – 1989
The Art of Solidarity is an exciting exhibition taking place at the Museum of Slavery in Liverpool, England. The event displays rarely-seen posters designed in Cuba during the Cold War era that supported freedom movements around the world. This collection of powerful politically motivated posters provide an interesting glimpse into the liberation and independence movements that occurred in Africa after World War II. The bold, graphic, and thought-provoking posters highlight the connection between Cuban artists and African countries seeking independence. The exhibition provides a captivating glimpse into the history of global struggles and propaganda in the medium of poster design.

Epic Star Wars Gallery

2017 is an important year for the Star Wars community – it is the 40th anniversary of the film series, and in order to celebrate, Texas-based art gallery and print shop Mondo wanted to do something big for the fans by holding their biggest art exhibition yet! Mondo specifically sought out the works of Mike Mitchell, who has been collecting illustrated portraits of the Star Wars characters since February 2016.

Star Wars’ fans formed a two-block line to see Mitchell’s incredible work and the exhibition was a total success! Check out the video of Mike Mitchell explaining a little bit of his art work and view the amazing portraits he created.

Posters For Women’s Rights

The candidacy and election of Donald Trump has brought the issue of women’s rights to the fore, making a poster exhibition organized and curated by Elizabeth Resnick more relevant than ever. We previously featured this exhibition after it’s opening in Massachusetts. This time we share some images of the exhibition in  Namseoul University, in South Korea, where it was displayed from November 21 to December 2, 2016. The exhibition was organized by Professor Byoung Il Sun and showcases over 60 posters created by both men and women to “challenge gender inequality and stereotypes, advance reproductive and sexual rights, advocate protecting women and girls against brutality, and promote women’s empowerment, education, and participation in society”.
