Poster Monday: Seared
For this Poster Monday spot of the day we are featuring the poster “Seared” from Ajay Chandran; a freelance visual communication designer and a practicing calligrapher student of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru, India. “I experiment with malayalam and latin scripts. I have a small stint as a product designer as well. Being an accessory design graduate and switching my career to a visual communication designer was a big challenge but helped me heaps in the design process which I still follow. I’m planning to do my Masters in visual communication in the coming years” says Ajay.
The poster “Seared” ‘തിരിച്ചറിവ് (Thiricharivu) written in Malayalam, can be understood as a synonym for Realization and Enlightenment, It’s an experimental Malayalam typography, treated so as to reflect how individual forms constitute to create a flame, a mental labyrinth, which helps us delve deeper into ourselves to find the truth in ourselves. It’s a flame to keep us afloat in these difficult times. Ajay tells us that “The last few months have been a time for contemplation. I was going through my sketchbook one of these days and chanced upon a sketch I made while I was still in college. That’s when the idea struck me to refine it and make a poster out of it and I think the time was right to convey my thoughts. I wanted everyone to feel the meaning of the word in the process of them actually reading it”.
