Poster Monday: The Pianist
For this Poster Monday spot we featuring the poster “The Pianist” designed by Dragana Vasić a Graphic design student at The Academy of Arts, University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. “I started making posters at my first year at the Academy and that is the field in graphic design that I prefer the most, because of the complexity of translating every message to the visual language that is understandable to everyone, regardless of their interests and cultural background. The fields I also like are book design and branding. I like exploring the new fields in graphic design and art, and I’m trying to create my own style by using mixed media and combining traditional fine arts like painting, drawing, printmaking and illustration with modern graphic design tools” says Dragana.
The poster was made for the movie ‘The Pianist’ as a school project. The task was to make the poster with an optical illusion. “I’ve took an advantage of the optical similarity of the piano keys and bullets to make the optical illusion. I think that I’ve carried the movie plot over to the spectators, with only these two powerful symbols. My creative process was intuitive, because I’ve used well known similar images and just put them in a different context. I think that this poster is a new minimal interpretation (with a twist) of the well-known movie, but sometimes, less is more”.
