POSTER MONDAY: Cycle

For the last Poster Monday of October we featuring the poster “Cycle” designed by Pepo Almonte, from Mexico. He was born in Durango, México it’s a multidisciplanary designer, have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and a postgraduate degree in Science and Arts for Design where he won the Academic Merit Medal, as a designer he has more than twenty-five years of practice; his posters have been exhibited in more than hundred collections around the world.

The poster “Cycle” It is part of the Calacarteles 6 collection dedicated to celebrating the Day of the Dead; In Mexico, death is seen as a part of life and is celebrated in a mixture of veneration and celebration full of colors and Christian and pre-Hispanic symbolism. The poster reaches people through the eyes but it recreates in thought, touches emotions and ideas, becoming an accomplice of people in the message.

Poster Monday: War Only Brings Pain

For this new edition of Poster Monday we have a poster from the talented Goyen Chen from Taichung, Taiwan. He has a PhD in Digital Media Design from Asia University and have won 30 national design awards in just one year since started submitting posters to competitions last year. Currently teaching computer graphics, design thinking and audiovisual editing in a university course.

“The poster “War Only Brings Pain” mainly wants to express, for those who start a war, and then decide to start a war at the moment, the pain will come with it. I believe my poster appeals to the public in the simplest and clearest way possible that war only brings pain, and no matter who wins or loses today, there will be some painful losses. I hope that the leaders of all countries will think seriously before starting a war, we all live on the same land.

I created this poster at the end of May this year, when the war between Russia and Ukraine was going on. I wanted to use my small power to let everyone know that no matter what conflict we face today, the people who use violence are absolutely to blame for everyone’s suffering” tell us Goyen.

POSTER MONDAY: Peace

Today’s Poster Monday spot belongs to Ameneh Moayedi and her poster “Peace” Ameneh is a Iranian graphic designer living in Paris.  She spent high school in the field of graphics in the south of Iran and continued the bachelor’s degree in the same field and worked for many years.  In 2012, Ameneh moved to France for a master’s degree in visual communication.

“In graphic art, I like posters and I work mostly in this field.  I also examine modern carpet designers and research on the role of women in carpet weaving and the influence of poetry on Iranian carpet patterns.  Painting and drawing are my interests and I have had many exhibitions in this field. Usually my posters are minimal because I like simplicity in posters.  Custom posters for movies, theater and music concerts.  But I like non-commissioned posters whose subjects are social, cultural and political concerns. What concerns me the most is “humanity and love”.  As we see in this poster, loving, loving people to each other and kindness…!  It is free and we can communicate to each other even with a small smile.  I always keep in mind the city of the great Persian poet who says:

“Human beings are body parts of each other,
In creation they are indeed of one essence.
If a body part is afflicted with pain,
Other body parts uneasy will remain.
If you have no sympathy for human pain,
The name of human you shall not retain.”

We cannot be indifferent to the pain and problems of others, anywhere on earth.  We are related to each other, we are connected to each other and I always believe in this and with my art I try to convey my message to all the people of the world that I love them and all people are important to me. The heart in this poster is a symbol of humanity and love, and the olive leaf is a symbol of “Peace”… the pink color speaks of feelings for me.  I designed the poster in the simplest way.  A heart that gives an olive branch and speaks of “Peace”. Of course, after the war in Ukraine, I changed the same poster with the background of the country’s flag (blue and yellow) to show my solidarity with the people of Ukraine and opposition to the war” tell us Ameneh.

POSTER MONDAY: No War

Last place for September goes to Mikhail Lychkovskiy and his poster “No war”. He is the contemporary designer and poster artist. His works are based on typographic treatment and mixing of national graphic styles.

“The poster was made in the last days of February this year and it relies on the aesthetics of designers, whom I consider saints for various reasons. To pay tribute to Peter Bankov, I used acrylic paint, a tired brush and a broken toothpick. The rocket peels off like a sticker (or like a plaster) — to honor Shigeo Fukuda, as a designer who survived a terrible war and left the strongest statements about it. I don’t really believe that people who start wars can listen to the sayings on the poster. But. In a sense, the work was done out of helplessness and to overcome helplessness. This is a question that is important to ask yourself and find an answer to it: What can you do to stop the war? You can always do at least something to make the world a better place (or at least not make it worse)” tell us Mikhail.

Let’s give a warm welcome to this new edition of Poster Monday and to the selected designer, this Poster Monday spot of the day goes to Selin Gezer for his poster “Bipolar Disorder”. She lives in Istanbul and studying Graphic Design at Yeditepe University. At the same time, Selin doing a double major with the Plastic Arts and Painting department.
“My poster is about “Bipolar Disorder”. The purpose of my choice of this topic is primarily to raise awareness about this disease. Even though people with this disease may seem happy from time to time, they should always be pessimistic and have bad thoughts inside, and therefore they should always be unhappy. Compare people’s unhappiness to a banana. As a designer, I wanted to include this subject in my design in order to raise awareness against such diseases, I think that we should support people with this disease. I hope this poster I made inspired people with this disease” tell us Selin.

Elo tells us about his “Pride” poster “There are real way to stop the war on Ukraine, but I see more guns support than a support of dialog and diplomatic way to stop conflict. So I see that politician authorities cannot “bend” to do right thing. Question is: What is behind this behavior? It is pride… …and pride eats peace”

For the first Poster Monday spot of September we are featuring a poster from Hugo García who lives in Guadalajara, Mexico. Born in Ocotlán Jalisco, on 1969, his posters have been selected by renowned designers from different continents, and several times his posters have been placed among the best 50, in various international competitions. He has managed to be selected in the top ten of international posters with the theme of climate change and has been the guest of honor for the design and exhibition of social posters, in different countries such as Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, China, Spain, Venezuela, Russia, United States United States, Iran, North Korea, Peru, Turkey, Ukraine, Krakow and Mexico. The social poster has been a line of knowledge that has been present in his professional career as a designer, academic coordinator and professor of design at the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Occidente ITESO.

“The poster Bridge was born for participating in different community projects as a self-taught bass player and guitarist, and in recent decades as a poster artist, have generated a taste for sharing and expressing for people the importance of doing for and with others. I believe that there are many things to do with others, in the places we inhabit and we cannot generate a change and lead a transition of society from an individualistic vision and suddenly, it requires everyone to turn around and walk connected to new horizons. to start with small but constant steps. Music and art in general manage to establish personal links between human beings to create a unity from diversity. For the last Poster Monday of August we have the honor to present Keith Kitz’s “PUT OUT” poster. Keith Kitz (born in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an artist, graphic designer, and educator living in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the founder of Keith Kitz Design, a practice that has supported clients in the realization of their visual goals for over a decade. Kitz is also the Program Director (BFA and MA), and an Assistant Professor, Graphic Design in the College of Arts & Sciences at Suffolk University. His coursework runs the full spectrum of student development from fundamentals, the creation and implementation of multi-channel design campaigns, and theses. Kitz’s award-winning work has been chronicled in periodicals, books, exhibitions, and permanent collections throughout the United States, and globally in over 50 countries. He has also had the honor of contributing as juror to several poster competitions and a variety design events.

“PUT OUT a word play on Putin, is a call for an immediate withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine. This poster was designed for Stand With Ukraine, an open-ended poster campaign initiated by The 4th Block (Ukraine) and PosterTerritory (United States) inviting socially responsible designers to express their views on the undeclared war on Ukraine. The poster was made using a multiple step analog/digital process to generate the photocopied texture—a visual metaphor for Putin’s continuous nefariousness” tell us Kitz.

Outside of classroom and client commitments, Kitz established his 365 Poster Project. Since 2014, this purely experimental space has allowed him to embrace his passion for the form, generating a minimum of a poster a day annually. Kitz’s daily making has generated several thousand entries and represents a comprehensive range of personal, social, and political topics. Another week goes by and another Poster Monday arrives. This spot belongs to Lin Hung Chang from Taipei, Taiwan, he is a creative designer who is keen on graphic design and a university professor, and has served as a number of poster reviewers. His poster design works have won awards in many competitions and have been invited to nearly 100 professional exhibitions at home and abroad, and have been selected as one of the top 100 visual outstanding designers in Taiwan, the Graphis Protest Posters 2 Gold Award/Silver Award in the United States, and the Poster Stellars Poster Design Competition in the United States/full audience. Award, Golden Pin Design Award/Best Design of the Year and other international awards.

“Peking Opera is the quintessence of Chinese culture and art. It refines, exaggerates, beautifies, and adorns the forms, languages, and movements in life to form a special means of expression, which is reflected in the performance. This Poster Monday spot of the day belongs to Emran Abtahi, a graphic designer born 1987 in Iran, began his studies in graphic design in Gorgan and graduated from Vocational University No.2 Sari. He works in the field of poster design, logo design, typography and layout. In 2017, designed the logo of the World Women’s Chess Championship in Tehran. In 2020, won first place at the Russian Strelka Biennale. Currently, an art director and graphic designer in Iran Art Gallery in Gorgan.

“The Chernobyl disaster is one of the nuclear crises that is classified in the highest scale of major release of radioactive materials with extensive health and environmental effects that require immediate planned actions. Although years have passed since this incident, traces of radioactive substances and genetic mutations are still observed in people. Among these, we can mention the deformity of babies in the last two decades, including being born without arms and legs. The idea of the poster refers to showing the same destructive effects on children” tell us Emran.
