Poster Monday: Peter Knapp

For this Poster Monday spot, we feature the work of Ameneh Moayedi, a graphic designer from Iran. She studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts and University until Masters at the University of Art, in Iran, where she had her own graphic studio and after emigrating to France, she now works independently. Ameneh does painting, photography and research (on rugs and Persian prints).

“This was a student poster for Mr Peter Knapp conference In the Cambrai School Graphisme (November 18, 2014) Peter Knapp was born in 1931 in Switzerland. In 1952, he settled in Paris and started producing paintings. Robert Rauschenberg encouraged him to paint on a large format. I saw line, point and movement in his works.  His photos are wonderful, something between graphics and photography.  So, I used the line and the point and also his portrait between the area and the line. His works are full of passion and I wanted to express my point of view.  And he finally told me that this is a combination of me and you and not just me…!  I like the look and feel of the graphic artist in the poster and not just what we say about it. I was happy to meet him and to talk and learn from him” tell us Aménéh.

Poster Monday: Eyes Shadow

Today´s Poster Monday belongs to Maryam Mohtaramnejad from Theran and her poster “Eyes Shadow”. She studied in Central Islamic Azad University of Tehran and it’s an art teacher of the conservatory of the university.

Maryam tell us about her poster “This is me, over there, standing behind your barriers, I will imprison you in my eyes, and eventually, will rise up to get recognized to the extent of the world! Undeniable and rebellious…
Oppression, inequality and systematic injustice has always cast a shadow on women’s world and placed them in an inferior position compared with men in various familial, social, political, economic and cultural arenas.

Men power centrality in patriarchal societies restricts women’s attendance and their activism and thereupon marginalizes them. In these kinds of structures, the constructions of women’s identity will be nothing but an object serving men and possessed by them; it won’t accept any kind of feminine finding individuality only if it’s in dominance of a man’s power.
Therefore, femininity’s territory will always get more and more limited and its action span will be confined to the restricted and possible area defined by men.

This poster is a metaphorical symbol of a world that enlists its numerous possibilities to subjugate and ignore women and control their existences and stabilize men power domination. While, this effort is convicted to defeat and feminine power will turn this pain into a tremendous vigor for alteration of the constructions. The bystander eye in center is awakened femininity that will regain its potency at the end, and after passing made barriers of sexuality will redefine its identity as a “human”.

Poster Monday: Give Peace a Chance

This March we dedicate it to women designers and the first spot goes to Reyhane Shahalizade with her poster “Give Peace a Chance”. She was born in 2000 in Iran, recently graduated from the university with a graphic design major. She designs illustrations, posters and motion poster and work as a freelance graphic designer, her posters have been displayed in several international exhibitions and catalogues in many different countries.

Reyhane tells us: “The story behind this poster is related to the strict laws and strict bans of the countries that deprive us from the opportunity of freedom, The concept of this poster is to understand the severe limitations and to give the opportunity of freedom for peace in the depth of the sea of limitations.  Feathers are a symbol of freedom and wings to fly towards freedom and make life a better place to live”.

Poster Monday: Woman, Life, Freedom

For the first Poster Monday of December we featuring the series of posters “Woman, Life, Freedom” from Rezå Zavari. He is an art director, graphic designer, ceramic sculpture and Art Director at MigrArt currently residing in Vienna, Austria.  Rezå has received countless awards for his work in the field of design such as: The second choice of the graphic book of Holy Defense 2013, 2nd winner of the 7th Biennial of Contemporary Iranian Ceramics, 2008, Graphic Award|cover design| The 11th National Press Festival 2013, Chosen of the 10th Youth Visual Arts Festival of the country, sculpture section.

The protest movement in Iran has been building into a potentially big change in Iranian society and not just for women. Although the detonator was the unfortunate death of the young Mahsa Amini at the hands of the moral police and at first the protests demanded justice, now the Iran’s morality police, which is tasked with enforcing the country’s Islamic dress code, is being disbanded, as the country’s attorney general says, this shows a light of hope for a peaceful resolution and other possible changes for the entire country.

POSTER MONDAY: Peace

Today’s Poster Monday spot belongs to Ameneh Moayedi and her poster “Peace” Ameneh is a Iranian graphic designer living in Paris.  She spent high school in the field of graphics in the south of Iran and continued the bachelor’s degree in the same field and worked for many years.  In 2012, Ameneh moved to France for a master’s degree in visual communication.

“In graphic art, I like posters and I work mostly in this field.  I also examine modern carpet designers and research on the role of women in carpet weaving and the influence of poetry on Iranian carpet patterns.  Painting and drawing are my interests and I have had many exhibitions in this field. Usually my posters are minimal because I like simplicity in posters.  Custom posters for movies, theater and music concerts.  But I like non-commissioned posters whose subjects are social, cultural and political concerns. What concerns me the most is “humanity and love”.  As we see in this poster, loving, loving people to each other and kindness…!  It is free and we can communicate to each other even with a small smile.  I always keep in mind the city of the great Persian poet who says:

“Human beings are body parts of each other,
In creation they are indeed of one essence.
If a body part is afflicted with pain,
Other body parts uneasy will remain.
If you have no sympathy for human pain,
The name of human you shall not retain.”

We cannot be indifferent to the pain and problems of others, anywhere on earth.  We are related to each other, we are connected to each other and I always believe in this and with my art I try to convey my message to all the people of the world that I love them and all people are important to me. The heart in this poster is a symbol of humanity and love, and the olive leaf is a symbol of “Peace”… the pink color speaks of feelings for me.  I designed the poster in the simplest way.  A heart that gives an olive branch and speaks of “Peace”. Of course, after the war in Ukraine, I changed the same poster with the background of the country’s flag (blue and yellow) to show my solidarity with the people of Ukraine and opposition to the war” tell us Ameneh.

Poster Monday: Freedom

For the first Poster Monday of October we featuring the poster “Freedom” from our previously featured designer Neda Abbasali Zadeh from Mashhad, Iran.

Iran at this moment is experiencing a very important social movement, part of its society no longer supports the restrictions and abuses imposed on women, sadly the trigger for this was the loss of the life of the young Mahsa Amini in the hands of the Police Moral. The voices in the country and outside of it demand freedom, we hope that they achieve it not only in this country but that one day not too far away the freedom of women in the world will not be a wish but a reality.

Neda tell us “Freedom is nothing but the right to live the way we want, and we do not have the simplest right in our country, Iran. Women are arrested and killed or imprisoned for saying the smallest right to choose. We do not have the right to speak and This means being in a cage. Life without freedom is like a body without a soul. In my poster, I depicted the bound and captive hands of young women and girls of my country to make their captivity known to the whole world”.

Poster Monday: Chernobyl 35

This Poster Monday spot of the day belongs to Emran Abtahi, a graphic designer born 1987 in Iran, began his studies in graphic design in Gorgan and graduated from Vocational University No.2 Sari. He works in the field of poster design, logo design, typography and layout. In 2017, designed the logo of the World Women’s Chess Championship in Tehran. In 2020, won first place at the Russian Strelka Biennale. Currently, an art director and graphic designer in Iran Art Gallery in Gorgan.

“The Chernobyl disaster is one of the nuclear crises that is classified in the highest scale of major release of radioactive materials with extensive health and environmental effects that require immediate planned actions. Although years have passed since this incident, traces of radioactive substances and genetic mutations are still observed in people. Among these, we can mention the deformity of babies in the last two decades, including being born without arms and legs. The idea of the poster refers to showing the same destructive effects on children” tell us Emran.

For the Poster Monday spot of the day we have a poster designed by Akram Mokhber from Iran. She has two bachelor degrees, first one is software engineering and the second is communication design; now worked as freelancer, Her poster were selected in cow design festival in 2021 beside he participated in more than 10 international poster exhibitions.

“My purpose about this poster is; the content was about combination of cultures in Silk Road and so I combined some patterns from my nation’s traditional patterns (Iran) which come from mosaic or traditional woman and also a road which contains 100 roads but it means 100 sister school then overall look is like a belt” tell us Akram.

For the first Poster Monday of June we featuring the poster “Pacso” designed by Neda Abbasali Zadeh from Mashhad, Iran. She was born in 1986 in Isfahan and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in science and art from Yazd University. Is member of “International Association of China-Europe Design Culture” (CEIDA), the Association and Jury of the International Network of Visual Creators “Red” (RINC), Mexico, Pakistan. Art and Design Committee (PADO); Neda have participated in many domestic and foreign poster festivals (Iran-America-Italy-Mexico-Budapest-China-South Korea-Switzerland-Turkey-Azerbaijan-Poland-Malaysia-Poland) and my works have been selected in many of them; as a graphic designer and art director in 1392 Neda established his own advertising company called Soner Graphic and his main activity is graphic design and cooperation of “technical consulting” with advertising companies.

The bird in the poster is traditionally considered the national symbol of Canada. The appearance of these symbols is due to the geographical location, natural and historical features of the country. Red and white are the main colors of the flag of Canada. “I have been interested in graphics since high school because of my great interest in art. My desire to design stems from my dependence on order and geometry in nature” tell us Neda.

Poster Monday: A Man with Sealed Lips

The first Monday Poster of march is from Rasool Haghjoo from Iran and is titled “A Man with Sealed Lips”. He is a member of Iranian graphic designers’ society (IGDS), Member of Iranian theater poster designer’s association (ITPODA). Rasool has won numerous awards (In Writing, Designing, Role Playing, and Directing Categories) and prizes both at National and International festivals, Such as 1st Prize of the San Francisco – IFF International Festival (As Graphic Designer), 2nd and 3rd Prize of the Fadjr International Theater Festival (As Graphic Designer),1st Prize of the Fadjr International Theater Festival (As Writer), 2nd Prize of the Fadjr International Theater Festival (As Street Theater Director) and etc. He works as theater writer and actor, graphic designer and filmmaker.

The poster “A Man with Sealed Lips”, is a poster for a documentary film. The story of the film is about a very quiet artist, named Abdolreza Hayati, who was also a famous icon in Khouzestan state. He passed away a few years ago, was a writer and also a mentor for two young artist’s generations. “I tried to – based on film title – foucus on lips and mouth and make the lips with stone. It’s because his silence and quietness. He knew everything but he never ever barging of the situations and just keep doing his job. in the background if the poster you can see one of his last notes, written by his handwriting. I also tried to make some changes in the poster typography and turn it to the stitches” tell us Rasool.
