For the 2019’s last poster we want to congratulate Naufan Noordyanto from Indonesia for his poster “In service of fashion”. Naufan is a graphic designer with a Master of Art in Visual Communication Design who focuses on graphic design: poster, visual branding; and typography; illustration, etc. He graduated from Master of Arts Studies (M.A.) Program majoring in Visual Communication Design; and Undergraduate (B.A.) Program in Visual Communication Design Department, Faculty of Visual Art, at Indonesia Institute of the Arts of Yogyakarta (known as “Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta”). Now, he became a lecturer on campus he studied, in Yogyakarta Province, Java Island. Naufan is an award winning designer, finalist, selected, or invited artist in more than 100 international and 20 national art events and competitions. His works were presented in the national and international exhibitions in more than 30 countries.
In Naufan words, “The process of production and consumption of fashion products made from crocodile skins became a controversy, as from the news, especially protests often come from environmental activists, animal lovers, to the government that protects the existence of crocodiles. Behind the charm of fashion products from exotic animal skins, the people in this business tortured and even skinned alive, and killed the animals”. “So I raised this problem through poster design as a simple campaign medium. I made this poster with a visualization of the transformation of two objects. This makes the message of this poster become clear. This object is made many and repetitive to emphasize the problem that is being discussed and continues to happen. The public are invited to think that crocodiles skinned alive in service of fashion every year. However, I am realizing that this is a difficult campaign to do and many challenges, trading exotic species skin are a profitable and well entrenched business”.
