The Swiss of Paris Exhibition

Switzerland is well known for their amazing designers, and their impeccable training helps prepare designers for success in the competitive design industry. Swiss graphic designers and typographers from the 1950’s were often given important positions despite their youth. For example, Peter Knapp and Jean Widmer at Galeries Lafayette or Adrian Frutiger at the foundry Typography Deberny & Peignot. Switzerland has a modern training system in design to turn their apprentices into great professionals, but Paris can open many doors for designers to obtain international recognition.

This exhibition shows achievements conceived within international teams and in dialogue with Parisian colleagues. It embraces all kinds of designs of interest, such as editorial design, photography, film, advertising, scenography, visual identity, signage, typography and character creation.

Poster Monday: Insomnia

The Poster Monday spot of the day, it’s entitled “Insomnia” and was designed by Julia Monegier Garbuzova from Russia. Julia was born and raised in Rostov-on-Don. She graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Montpellier and now she is the Art director & graphic designer of a small agency in Paris. She loves typographical and hand made posters, like the ones by Peter Bankov and Michal Batory, and is a fan of the Polish poster school.

The poster “Insomnia” is a simple photo, slightly improved in Photoshop. The images was made using UV Black Light. Julia created the poster just after the Nice attack in France “I wanted to do some posters but the ideas didn’t come… I could not concentrate on my work and I was too anxious. Why? Because the fear becomes the part of our daily lives and prevents us to create and live normally” says Julia.

HEY exhibition in Paris

The magazine HEY! Modern Art & Pop Culture founded in 2010 by Anne & Julien is back at the Halle Saint Pierre, after the first two editions (2011 and 2013) were enthusiastically received by the public. This third component, HEY! Modern Art & Pop Culture / Act III continues the exploration and dissemination of various artistic expressions of the cross-culture lowbrow art, outsider art, comics and more generally the holders of a media culture street.

Posters for Charlie Hebdo

Yesterday was a very sad day as gunmen shot dead 12 people at the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, in an apparent militant Islamist attack. Four of the magazine’s well-known cartoonists, including its editor, were among those killed, as well as two police officers.

In response to this tragic event designers and artists from around the world created posters to show their support and to advocate for the importance of freedom of expression.

Air poster was born from the desire to occasionally produce shapes out of the frame of the order, to embody ideas, desires, for the fun of the graphical and plastic search, to get some air… Air Poster will be having a sale of posters from December 17 to 23, 2014 at The Cube Red, located at 270 Boulevard Raspail in Paris.
