Station Domination: An Underground Exhibition
Station domination refers to completely taking over all media display opportunities within a transit station. Poster House has used this method to organize an underground exhibition in New York City. A great way to highlight the world of design was their decision to make the theme of the show itself about posters. Poster House has chosen 47 posters which span a history of 130 years which still have the power to compel a modern audience. These images will be captivating transit riders at West 4th Street Subway Station, New York, NY.

Exhibition: Between the Lines
Posters have long been an integral part of public transportation, providing commuters with useful information, ads, and beautiful works of art. Because of the importance, and long history that posters have played in our daily traveling routines, a poster exhibition of these great artworks has been organized for July 5th, 2018. In celebration in 150 years of Connaught Village and The Hyde Park Estate, and in partnership with Tomkinson Churcher, this selling exhibition of vintage London transport and recreation posters features rare and beautiful works dating back decades. The exhibition “Between the Lines”, features highlights such as rare London Tramways poster of Ken Wood [Kenwood] & Hampstead Heath, created by Ralph & Brown Studios in 1928, and also includes the the work of renowned graphic artist Edward McKnight Kauffer.

Exhibition: Underground Images in Vienna

Underground Images: Vienna
A very unique poster exhibition that has been touring the world has now arrived in Vienna, Austria. Underground Images brings together the work of some of the world’s best designers, created at SVA for display in the New York City subway system.

SVA has been using alternative marketing strategies since the mid-1950’s to attract new students and took advantage of the New York subway system to showcase powerful and thought-provoking posters. Over the years designers such as Ivan Chermayeff, Milton Glaser and George Tscherny have featured their posters as part of this campaign. Currently, a collection of these amazing posters has arrived in Vienna and can be seen at designforum Wien.

When the wrong color feels right

David Heasty and Stefanie Weigler, co-founders of the Brooklyn-based Triboro design firm, have come with an interesting poster for the New York City Subway Map, not as a replacement for the current one, but as a memento of the city. And this is not the first time! Back in 2010, they created a fluorescent red poster called the One Color Subway Map, which sold out quickly at NoHo design store The Future Perfect, and now, they used a different color scheme. Underground Images: SVA Exhibition

Underground Images: School of Visual Arts Subway Posters, 1947 to the Present is and exhibition that brings together 58 of the myriad posters created at SVA for display in the vast New York City subway system, offering a glimpse of the history of the College and the collective talent of its acclaimed design and illustration faculty. The exhibition was curated by SVA Executive Vice President Anthony P. Rhodes, who has served as creative director for the posters since 2007. The exhibition, which is currently on display at the International Poster Competition, Skopje in Macedonia is organized by SVA faculty member Mirko Ilić and Francis Di Tommaso, director of  SVA Galleries.

The 28 artists in “Underground Images” include Gail Anderson, Marshall Arisman, Gene Case, Ivan Chermayeff, Paul Davis, Sal De Vito, Louise Fili, Audrey Flack, Nathan Fox, Bob Gill, Robert Giusti, Milton Glaser, Phil Hays, Steven Heller, Mirko Ilić, Viktor Koen, Stephen Kroninger, Marvin Mattelson, James McMullan, Jerry Moriarty, Tony Palladino, Stefan Sagmeister, David Sandlin, Paula Scher, Eve Sonneman, George Tscherny, James Victore and Robert Weaver.

Amazing animated subway poster

A Swedish subway ad got a lot of attention earlier this year by showing a woman’s hair blowing beautifully in the wind whenever a train arrived. And now it has inspired another attention-grabbing display with a powerful message created by swedish agency Garbergs. We don’t want to spoil it for you, so we’ll just let you watch the video.
