Poster Monday: Peace for Ukraine

The designer on the spot today is Pawel Pacholec a graphic designer from Poland. He studied graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk and photography at the University of Arts in Poznan.

“This poster is my graphic manifest and reaction to the situation in Ukraine. I’m not a politician, nor a soldier. As a graphic designer this is what I can say in the form of a visual message. Two fingers shaping V letter is a very universal peace symbol across the globe. Peace is what Ukraine needs the most right now. To colors, blue and yellow that stand for Ukraine’s flag, and black background that represents Russian terror and aggression, as well as deep ignorance of Russia. “Peace for Ukraine” is a digital illustration. I spend some time making the proportions of the hand to the background just right. The black (or missing thumb) reminds us that freedom and peace is not given once and for all, and there has to be a constant fight to keep it. The symbolism is simple and direct: peace is all that matters for Ukrainian people these days” tell us Pawel.

“We recently were assigned to create posters for the Netflix documentary titled “Winter On Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom”. I was inspired by the iconography of the Independence Monument in Maiden Square, where most of the violence erupted in central Ukraine” tell us Mia.

Poster Monday: The New World

For April’s last Poster Monday spot we featuring  “The new World” designed by Mariia Ominina a Digital artist from Paris, France.
“It was a journey for me to come to the topic of ‘the new world’.  For the last 7 years, I was traveling a lot around the world. I was hit by my experience in Asia. That was the first time I had an idea to make a series of posters related to this new reality I explored. There was a lot of job on collecting the conceptions of this new world idea I have. I get to the point that it is much wider than just the difference between European and Asian civilizations.

The idea of ‘net’ and ‘confusion and even rather a lack of clarity’ appeared in my head as 2 anchors. They were the base of the visual solution I found for this project. It took me almost 2 years to finish this series due to pandemic and other bothering things around. This tragedy in Ukraine forced me to finish it. Because my first thoughts about ‘the new world’ turned into a totally different perspective. This project is about connection. About old and new. About all of us lost in this brand new world. About what is around us now” tell us Mariia.

Poster Monday: Fake Peace

The designer on the todays Poster Monday is Elshan Valijanov from Azerbaijan. He was born in 1984 in Dashkasan. In 1994 moved to the capital Baku. “As a child, I loved to draw abstract pictures, and this is one of the main indicator that I became a designer in the future. I am an ecologist by profession and I love nature and people”. Elshan work as a freelancer with many countries, he have won many foreign and local design competitions also working as a Graphic Designer and Art Director in the biggest holding in Azerbaijan.

The “Fake Peace” poster tells us about a phenomenon that is repeated in the world more times than we wish. “According to the lies of dictatorial politicians, there is no peace and security in the world. The world does not need a fake peace. It is a political poster. In this poster, I have tried to show the face of dictatorial politicians. Not every word they say is serious and good for the nation. They often say they want peace, but they see peace in war. They even kill people for their own interests. Dove is a symbol of peace, but their lies prevent the dove from flying away. Poster designs and design in general are very closely related, I love this art and the art of design is an inseparable part of my life” tell us Elshan.

Poster Monday: Coercion, War is a Violation

The first Monday Poster of April its titled Coercion, War is a Violation and was designed by Emese Deschmann. She was born in Buapest (Hungary) to an art patronizing family, after spending a year at the Merz Academy (Hochschule Für Gestaltung, Kunst und Medien) in Stuttgart, then she graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pécs with a degree in painting (2000). Emese have gained most of her knowledge from the masters, Sándor Pinczehelyi and Ferenc Lantos. After working in the field of advertising graphics and graphic design work for more than 10 years – therefore gaining a lot of professional and human experience – she have found her way back to artistic poster design and illustration.

“The war next to us sparked the idea, but what I wanted to say is a little more general. Coercion, war is a violation of life itself. Whichever way it ends up, whatever it results in – a collective trauma is inevitable. Whatever the purpose of war is –  an exercise of power, financial or territorial increment, – violence is the humiliation of life” tell us Emese.

“Mariupol is new Guernica. This is Ukrainian city, which is blocked during month by Russian fascist invaders and bombing 7/24. Half of residents died, children, women. They were in the basements of the building houses. So this poster represents humans in the basement of the city, heroic Mariupol, which is bombarded day and night” tell us Irakli.

An ordinary person is exposed to the thousands of messages that present beauty with obsessive standards, creating addictions that not only affect the body but also mental and social health, where depression, anxiety and other mental disorders are becoming more frequent among people from ages as young as nine years old up to thirty years old and more.

Poster Monday: A Man with Sealed Lips

The first Monday Poster of march is from Rasool Haghjoo from Iran and is titled “A Man with Sealed Lips”. He is a member of Iranian graphic designers’ society (IGDS), Member of Iranian theater poster designer’s association (ITPODA). Rasool has won numerous awards (In Writing, Designing, Role Playing, and Directing Categories) and prizes both at National and International festivals, Such as 1st Prize of the San Francisco – IFF International Festival (As Graphic Designer), 2nd and 3rd Prize of the Fadjr International Theater Festival (As Graphic Designer),1st Prize of the Fadjr International Theater Festival (As Writer), 2nd Prize of the Fadjr International Theater Festival (As Street Theater Director) and etc. He works as theater writer and actor, graphic designer and filmmaker.

The poster “A Man with Sealed Lips”, is a poster for a documentary film. The story of the film is about a very quiet artist, named Abdolreza Hayati, who was also a famous icon in Khouzestan state. He passed away a few years ago, was a writer and also a mentor for two young artist’s generations. “I tried to – based on film title – foucus on lips and mouth and make the lips with stone. It’s because his silence and quietness. He knew everything but he never ever barging of the situations and just keep doing his job. in the background if the poster you can see one of his last notes, written by his handwriting. I also tried to make some changes in the poster typography and turn it to the stitches” tell us Rasool.

Poster Monday: Music is the Food of the Soul

For February last Monday we featuring the poster “Music is the food of the soul” designed by Nuriman Zakiroghlu. He was born in 1994 and currently live in Baku, Azerbaijan working as a freelance graphic designer on visual communication and visual solutions and currently working as Graphic Design Instructor at Baku Design Academy.

People have different tastes and diversity is everywhere.  Choice of delicious food, movies, clothes, or music. Things are different for everyone’s tastes. “Where I live, there is an expression: Music is food for the soul. Everyone wants to be healthy. They should be able to make good choices. You need to eat, dress healthy and listen to healthy music. Therefore, whatever music a person listens to, he feeds his soul with it. In this visual, the musical note is expressed with a ladle and placed on the lines as a note. The ladle is for mixing and distributing food to dishes and the expression of music as a food instrument creates a positive feeling in people and also reminds people of the importance of choosing the right music for their playlists” tell us Nuriman.
